While his “Atlanta” series has just ended, Donald Glover is already back to basics with “Swarn,” a thriller centered on the story of a young woman obsessed with a Beyoncé-inspired pop star. A way to explore the excesses of the star system in the age of social networking.
An ambitious project. In an interview for the American site Vanity FairDonald Glover, known as the creator of the series “Atlanta”, and Janine Nabers talked about the genesis of “Swarm”, a fiction with which they wanted to “create a narrative about an anti-hero through the eyes of a modern African-American woman” , says the latter. If they cite “Mad Men” and “The Sopranos” as inspiration, Donald Glover admits that he has also seen European cinema.
“We thought it would be fun to do a real post-The Pianist mixed with La valse des pantins,” he says, referring to Michael Haneke’s 2001 Isabelle Huppert film and the Martin Scorsese’s 1982. starring Robert De Niro. This is all that is known about the series, the details of which – apart from the official synopsis and exclusive photos of Vanity Fair – are kept in the strictest secrecy.

Co-produced by Barack Obama’s eldest daughter, Malia Obama, “Swarm” will follow the story of Dre, who is totally obsessed with a fictional pop star. The series will follow her in her life as a super-fan, and how this obsession will lead her to dark and unexpected places.
Who will be in the cast of the series?
Dominique Fishback will play the character of Dre. While Chloe Bailey will be Marissa, her sister. Damson Idris will lend his features to his charismatic boyfriend. Dominique Fishback has revealed that she auditioned for the role of Marisa, before insisting on playing the character of Dre, for her “separate” side. We also note the presence in the cast of Rory Culkin, brother of Macauley and Kieran.
When will the series air?
At the moment, Amazon Prime Video does not have a specific date, except that it will launch in late 2023. This series is part of contract signed by Donald Glover with the streaming platform in February 2021.
