The directors of Bad boys for life, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, will return for this new installment, which is still in early pre-production. No plot details have been released yet, but Ill Smith will produce the film alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad and Chad Oman, while Martin Lawrence will executive produce alongside James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone.
Chris Bremner, who wrote the screenplay for the third film, is also back as screenwriter. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence both announced the news in Instagram posts.
The two actors made their debuts as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in the first Bad Boys movie in 1995. The bombastic action film centered around the two cops investigating a heroin heist at their police headquarters. This box office success spawned two more sequels, Bad Boys II in 2003 and Bad Boys for Life in 2020, with the first two films directed by Michael Bay.
After being announced in 2020, this long-running project has encountered several obstacles, including changes in writers and directors.
Then came the Oscar slap story. Although his team-mate was heavily criticized for this bloody gesture, Martin Lawrence confirmed that the fourth part of the cop buddies comedy still went very well.
“We have at least one more“said Martin Lawrence, adding of the franchise: “It was huge. The fact that we came together and proved that we could deliver on our promises and bring people to the box office — that two black stars, two sitcom stars, could make money at the box office. [était énorme].”
Will fans of the first hour be there to discover the new adventures of the two cops?
We’ll have to wait a bit to find out…
